In the Skilled Nursing Facility of Eastlawn Embercare every day feels the same. Residents eat meals and take pills and smoke cigarettes when the weather is nice and the staff does the same. But every so often people start dying, and for some reason it always seems like when one person dies, two more will die sooner rather than later.

When a man named John Smith dies suddenly, the Residents and Staff members alike start looking at their own lives, and reflect on the meaning of existence as their world spirals out of control.
